NIKKO PROJECT

Having gone against her father’s wishes, Anika leaves her tribe and runs off with Nikko. She knows he’s special and over the next few weeks their friendship grows. Having someone to care for gives Nikko purpose and she reciprocates by teaching him how to properly use a bow. Feeling a bond with Nikko, Anika takes him to a sacred place where the dead are buried and where they can talk to the dead. As they enter the church, Anika leads him between the benches to a small podium. Beyond the pulpit is a massive stained-glass mosaic depicting a man with his disciples. Rays of sunlight make the glass man glow in wondrous glory. Anika tells Nikko that he is the “caretaker of the dead” and is the one who grants wishes. Eagerly, Nikko kneels and speaks from his heart, unleashing years of pain. He begs the “Wish maker” to let him speak with his deceased mother so she can tell him what to do. But nothing happens…Confused, Nikko turns to Anika and lashes out at her for lying to him. Offended, Anika storms off, leaving him alone with the unsympathetic lord of the dead.
